Genuine q, since I don’t know enough about Greek mythology to know what she got wrong- what’s wrong with Madeleine Miller’s work?

They’re fine as stories but are incredibly inaccurate. Song Of Achilles also really whitewashes Achilles in reference to Briseis. In the Iliad Achilles kills Briseis’ parents and brothers and takes her as a sex slave. In SoA Achilles takes her to protect her from Agamemnon which, uh, certainly is a reinterpretation of it.

I’m also not a fan of how she portrays Patroclus. In the Iliad he’s an incredibly good warrior. Like, the reason he’s able to don Achille’s armor and effectively impersonate him is because Patroclus is equally as skilled at fighting and at one point the gods have to intervene after he kills Sarpedon because he was fully capable of winning the war. I feel like SOA doesn’t really do him justice in that sense.
