have to finish this essay on my reaction to caesar and cato the younger’s speeches about the second catalinian conspiracy and im trying to find a way to say “caesar was the right one but i LOVE how cato just starts straight up insulting everyone” that sounds academic.
cato the younger: “Each of you schemes for his own private interests , when you are slaves to pleasure in your homes and to money.” “From slothfulness and weakness of the spirit you hesitate” “When you abandon yourself to cowardice and baseness, it is vain to call upon the gods; they are offended and hostile!”

academic translation: Although Caesar was in the right for x, y, and z reasons, it must be acknowledged that Cato gives an admirably spirited and audacious defense, claiming a, b, and c.
