one of the most annoying myths about pompeii is that the frescos in the brothel functioned as a “menu” for people to point out what they wanted. firstly, because everyone who walks into a brothel knows what sex is regardless of what language they speak. secondly, it falls apart pretty immediately when you do any sort of research and realize that all the erotic frescos in the building portray male/female penetrative sex. there aren’t any different options.
