my neighbor’s daughter moved to germany and she would bring her daughter with her when she came back to visit and we were kind of friends (her name was emma and b/c  i was named emily we bonded) 

anyway she was fluent in english b/c i think her mom taught english there? but she was fluent and she mentioned, several times, it got really pretty warm where she lived. like 28 degrees!

and i, being an american child, was convinced germany must be the coldest fucking place on earth if 28 degrees was hot.

we fell out of touch b/c my neighbor died but it wasnt until years later when i learned about celsius that the penny dropped
