You can google “notre dame fire” for tons more details but the long and short of it is about an hour ago a fire started from the attic/roof where renovation was ongoing.

The roof collapsed a short while ago and the spire went down about five minutes ago, but the fire is still going. I don’t want to be a pessimist, but there’s essentially no chance the Cathedral can be saved at this point.
