anyway in honor of mark antony’s birthday my favorite story about how dumb he could be is that he chose fucking dionysus as his god.

like if you were a Very Important Ruler in rome you had a sort of patron god that you wanted to be associated with. so, this guy, looked at all the civil war and dramatic bullshit and went “hey i wanna be that one god who’s basically the opposite of order. the drunken orgy god.” 

it did not help his public image when he went up against octavius.

Augustus dedicated his victory against Mark Anthony to Apollo and built him a temple at Actium. (you can search up “Apollo Palatinus” and see if you’re interested more)
