the current insane twitter discourse is that a YA author who has a reputation for being a picrew avatar uwu type who is constantly starting discourse and calling out “problematic” behavior admitted to being a legacy hire at Lockheed Martin and, in an absolutely wild turn of events, numerous people are coming out to defend him and following this up by saying that good people need to do what they need to do to pay the bills and that they/their family member/their spouse also work at the child murder factory
This has sparked some pretty heated debate over the ethics of working for a shitty corporation but I think that’s kind of missing the point here which is the absolutely delicious irony of someone who made a brand out of haranguing people for being morally compromised was, himself, incredibly morally compromised in the most straightforward and uncomplicated way possible like it’s such a perfect little anecdote
Establishing a corollary to Bidoff’s Law called Mardoll’s Law which states that the more aggressively someone cultivates a public persona out of making call-out posts and starting discourse online the worse the skeletons in their closet are irl
walking up to random doors and tugging on them and saying “i can’t. it’s locked” out loud to no one to fulfill my dreams of being an adventure game protagonist
also people act like drag queens are incapable of changing how they act for kids. like do you really think things like storytime with drag queens has like, sex jokes and dildos? do you think drag artists are unable to treat children appropriately while in drag? like drag doesn’t always need to be safe for kids obviously but just because a drag artist does a sexual show for adults doesn’t mean that artist can’t also be kid-friendly during times they are around kids. drag artists are not some scary boogeyman that’s gonna traumatize your children by their sheer Aura of Queerness
Honestly when you think about it this extends to everyone in childcare.
Do you assume that every single teacher, daycare worker, babysitter, etc. is a perfectly pure, cartoonishly kid-friendly person all of the time? No. They’re adult human beings who cuss and drink and have sex like everyone else. But they know how to act around children, even if they act differently around their friends and partners and other situations that don’t involve children. Nobody acts just one way all the time in any scenario, including drag queens.
god the tumblr experience for me is so often like ‘ugh i sort of agree with this post… but also i can see how the thing being objected to is reasonable in its own way… and frankly the objection is couched in really dickish terms… and also i hate at least one of the users involved… guess i’ll just stay out of this fight but walk away indefinably more irritated than before…’
